The Ballroom scene as we know it today is a network of
minority GLBTQQI people starting in the late 1960s
which dawned the name Harlem Drag Balls.
(Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender,
Queer, Questioning, & Intersex)
This division of the mainstream ballroom scene
has mostly female competitors. Women, intersex individuals,
butches, transmen, and other gender variant participants
engage in friendly contests.
There are the traditional categories from the
boy's functions and new radical competitions.
